Feeling the Pressure to Fit In? Here’s What That Might Be Costing You

“Conformity fits. Authenticity doesn’t.”

I was listening to The Diary of a CEO podcast the other day — an episode where Steven sits down with Macklemore. (Yes, that Macklemore. The rapper with the thrift shop anthem and the kind of emotional honesty that always made me feel there was more to him than just catchy hooks.)

I used to be a fan in passing. But hearing him speak about life, pressure, addiction, healing — I realised how deeply his worldview mirrors so much of what I’ve been feeling and witnessing with my clients lately.

If you’ve got 80 minutes and something mindless to do — folding laundry, weeding the garden, driving with no agenda — it’s worth your time.

Because that one line he said — “Conformity fits. Authenticity doesn’t.” — I haven’t been able to shake it since. And he’s right. That’s why authenticity can feel so hard.

Because it never fits the script we were handed. Authenticity can feel messy. Unpolished. Sometimes too much. And it doesn’t always get a round of applause. Being fully yourself can stir things in others. Your honesty can make their masks feel tight. Your brightness can light up the places they’ve tried to keep in shadow. That’s not your fault. It’s just what light does.

Your brightness can light up the places they’ve tried to keep in shadow. That’s not your fault. It’s just what light does.

Conformity though — that’s a different story. It’s tidy. Predictable. It keeps the tone down and the waters calm. And if you learned early on that love came easiest when you were agreeable, 'good', quiet, pleasing... then of course being fully yourself can feel like a risk.

But what’s the cost of always fitting in? I think you know the answer ... it's you.

Your voice. Your weird, wonderful needs. Your softness. Your spark. The parts of you that don’t line up neatly with how you “should” be — especially as a woman, a mother, a business owner, a human doing her best in a world that often wants performance over presence.

The double standards? They’re woven into everything. So familiar, we barely notice the weight — until we do. At the doctor’s office, wondering if we’re losing our minds. While wearing a face mask, feeling completely exhausted and disillusioned with life.

This soft-looking, suffocating blanket of contradictions tells you to be strong — but not bold.Kind — but not too soft. Show results — but somehow fit your entire life into a tidy 24-hour cycle.

No wonder you feel like you’re falling behind. The rules were never written for your reality.

But before throwing it all away and going rogue — hear me out. There is a way to the real you.

A new you that doesn’t take orders from the part of you that keeps asking you to shrink to fit.A new you that allows imperfection. That wants to redesign life around more alignment. More truth. To feel lighter. To feel joy about your life.

This — believe it or not — is the most common thing my clients ask for. Yes, they want success. Yes, a leaner body, healthier habits, more clarity. But underneath all of that? They just want to feel happy in their skin.

They want to feel real joy.

They want to live life on their own terms.

So I completely get where you’re coming from.

And I’m here to tell you: I can help you find that brave, new you.The one who moves with trust. With clarity. With a self-belief that actually feels real.
